Stop the Ringing - RecommendedDid you know that stress can be the cause of many medical issues and make worse many more, including tinnitus? Most tinnitus sufferers can manage their tinnitus stress to a certain degree until some event triggers their stress levels to rise and cause their tinnitus symptoms to worsen.

There are a number of different causes for tinnitus but it’s the stress and anxiety levels that can exacerbate the ringing in the ears. Because stress and anxiety plays a major role in exacerbating symptoms, it would be a wise decision for sufferers to better manage their tinnitus stress and anxiety in order to have a more fulfilling life.

One major problem that occurs when trying to manage tinnitus stress is that when the symptoms of tinnitus occur, the body responds as if it’s being attacked. This reaction starts a vicious cycle as the body answers this attack with insomnia, anxiety, and depression. So, one of the top priorities in lessening the symptoms of tinnitus is to find a stress management technique or program.

Here are some effective ways to minimize tinnitus stress:

Exercise:  During strenuous exercise, our bodies produce natural pain killers, called endorphins.  Running, bike riding, lifting weights, playing basketball, swimming, etc. can all help to reduce tinnitus stress and anxiety.

Organize your daily activities:  One very effective stress management technique is to sit down and write a list of the things you need to do accomplish for the day. By doing this one simple task, you’ll gain more concentration and have more time to do the things you enjoy.

Get rid of your bad habits:  Excessive drinking and smoking can cause unnecessary stress to the body.  If you smoke or drink, try to quit. I know this is easier said than done for most people.

Find a Hobby: Take up an activity you think you’ll enjoy such as dancing, drawing, singing, cooking, flying, golf, etc. Any hobby is good for self-therapy and excellent for stress reduction.

Get rid of the clutter.  Too much clutter in your life can make you feel more stressed. Cleaning out your house, car, or office can help put you back in control of your life.

Get a Massage. This is my favorite!!  Try to get a Swedish massage at least once or twice a month. A massage is more than just being pampered. Studies have shown that massage can actually cause the body to release a chemical known as serotonin. Serotonin helps decrease anxiety and depression. Massage can also increase the production of dopamine which is a “feel good” chemical which can help eliminate tinnitus stress.

Watch your diet: Drink more water and try to cut back on the colas and sugary drinks. Also make sure that you’re getting an adequate amount of B vitamins in your diet.  Foods rich in vitamin B are: Fish, Cheese, low fat milk, tuna, almonds, blueberries, and low fat beef.

Dealing with tinnitus is no fun, especially when it causes tinnitus stress. If you incorporate some form of stress management technique into your life, you might find living with tinnitus more manageable.
